Christian Night Life: Is there a NEED?

Is there a need for it? Definitely. You hear people talk about it all the time. “Man, I wish there was something to do. I just wanna do SOMETHING!” Or they say, “Well, I’m not ready to go home yet. Is there something else to do?” I believe these desires are not only valid desires, but it’s very necessary to meet these desires. People just want something to do. I mean, come on! Does “getting saved” mean no longer enjoying life? Sure it doesn’t. We should still be able to laugh and socialize while understanding that the motives and process have changed. I believe if people had more wholesome desires to choose from, they would choose them, instead of the whack choices we are left to choose from daily.
So, below are a couple of reasons why I, as a Christian, am for night life. But you know what, before I get on my soap-box reasoning for “Christian Night Life”, let me clarify a few things. My assumptions associated with the statements below are made with the idea that those who desire this sort of interaction are of pure motives. The ideal night life I’ll speak of cannot serve effectively the Christian community unless those with pure motives make up the majority of the population. Sad to say, there are people who share the same desires, but with ulterior motives or premeditated actions not conducive to the lifestyle we “Christians” should all be trying to live. My assumption is that these people share my point of view, in that, the social atmosphere and clean entertainment are the primary reasons for more wanting more events that last longer into the evening.
So, with that said, here we go:
For quite some time, the Christian community has frowned upon…well, maybe not frowned upon, but strayed away from promoting night life. With reason, the term night life is popularly associated with clubs, drinking, drugs, pre-marital sex, sneakiness, behind the door type stuff….basically, all things that should be socially unacceptable practices….to us Christians, that is. This is one of the main reasons night life is implied to be bad. On the flip side, being the pro-Christians-can-kick-it-at-night-too type of guy, I’m not talking about the late-night musicals or watch-night services or revivals, because I’m sure we all know that those services can last forever….and don’t get me wrong, you can have a good time. However, I’m talking more about outside the church events that allow people to socialize in a safe environment and be entertained in a wholesome atmosphere. For example, unless it’s Christian owned, you’re probably not going to be able to go to a place after 10:00 p.m. and not hear secular music or be in an alcohol/smoke free environment. But if a place existed, would you go there. If there was such a thing as a dry-sports bar, would you go? If there was a bowling alley or skating rink or pool hall that didn’t constantly draw you back to the lifestyle you just left, would you go there? If you could almost be guaranteed to go to a place with a dress code or regulated music selection, would you go? I know I would….in a heartbeat.
My next point focuses on the concept of emptying and replacing. My Pastor talked about replacing the bad with the good…the dark with the light. Applying that thought with the night life concept, it is very necessary to find things to replace the old ways we let go. Now, I know, from the get-go, we should immediately begin to add prayer, reading, fasting, church business and God-time into our lives. But one of the more important things that Christ came to Earth for, was so we could have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). To me this not only means spiritual clarity, purpose and even more physical/carnal discipline, but also that I can have a better time in Jesus than I was ever having in the world. I should still have the opportunity to dance without disrespecting myself or defiling my temple. I should still be able to socialize (or fellowship…if it makes you feel better) without “lowering my inhibitions” or having ulterior motives. I should still be able to go somewhere and listen to music, have some food, drink a fun NON-ALCOHOLIC drink, share some laughs and come home without one single sin being committed. Our social side is a side we have neglected with fear of sinning, when in actuality, it is one we should be afraid of neglecting for fear of feeling incomplete. It is in us to socialize. It brings confirmation, strength and unity to the lifestyle we should all be trying to live. For this reason, Paul said to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together…(Heb 10:25). How much more would we be encouraged by being around people whose aim is to live the same life we aim to live and enjoy living it?!
I love laughing. I love dancing. I love to see other people laughing and dancing! I love music. I love being in social settings. And I know I’m not the only one! At least I hope not. So surely…..surely…..this desire that’s rooted down to my very core of existence isn’t against God. Does it mean that if I can’t get all this in while the sun is up, then I just can’t do it. Surely not.
Let’s find a way to make this happen folks. Check your flesh at the door…matter of fact, just get rid of it….and bring our happy hearts, social personalities and Jesus-tudes together for a good time. I know it can work. There’s a HUGE need for it.

My good friend and a contributor to basementseven decided while being bored to share somethings he is thankful for. I thought it was pretty fun and worth sharing. Sean is a natural clown. I’ve been trying to convince him to emcee poetry night at least once. Check out this video. Funny. This dude is a clown; however, I think he is being sincere with some of the things he is thankful for. Lol…

I would wear these with my favorite pair 501 Levi jeans. These shoes are definitely rugged but with a my jeans and a cool tee-shirt, you can have that look. Okay, I like these shoes. You can find them here.
Look at this Look: Fashion

I’m kinda under the assumption that fashion is more. Not sure what that means but please see it as you would like. I picked this “look” because I find it to be neat. It doesn’t inspire me. I would love to wear it to the right occasion. Of course, as we know, outfits are sometimes made for the right body shape or figure. My figure would not work with this “LOOK”. This is from Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2010 Collection.
